The possibilities that fit the title of `Pictorial` are endless.
I suppose the classical view of a pictorial picture would be
a pleasant lakeland scene - but, in reality, there is a tendency
to put anything that doesn`t obviously fit other sections into
pictorial.
Based on this, I tend to look at pictorial images as
meaning anything that looks good, or that can be made to look
good. The pretty scenes have a place, and really shouldn`t be
knocked - but they can become a bit much.
I have judged competitions in autumn with a dozen or more
such lakeland scenes. Sometimes several have been close to
identical, with only slight differences in weather conditions.
My favorite example is the shot of Tarn Howes, which shows
the lake and promontory of land coming out from the left with
fir trees on it. That is the view from the side of the official
car park. I think there are a set of `permanent` tripod holes
there !
So, what follows are a series of `pictorial` pictures in
a slightly different vein. You need to decide for yourself if
you agree but, believe me, judges can get very fed up with the
same images over and over again, regardless of how well they
have been done.
Try and think of something that you can work on, possibly
by changing camera angle drastically, or using lens of wide, or
telephoto focal lengths. Look at what all the other
photographers are doing - if you MUST have the same picture,
shoot it. But then spend a bit of time thinking, and come up
with the same subject, but in an interesting way.
